Excessive grease coming out of the upper sheeve bearing
Outcome: Normal
The upper bearing was serviced approximately 45 hours prior. After the service the MM says to do a 5 minute ground run and wipe it down, but often I have found it will continue to expel some grease for many flight hours after. Grease coming out of the bearing seal without an accompanying rise in the telatemp indicator is not a cause for concern. The seal on the upper bearing on the R22 is just a 1 way seal, so it only stops dirt from getting inside. Every 300 hours it will be serviced with new mobil 28. It is good practice (and keeps the helicopter looking nice) to wipe it down during pre/post flight inspections.
